The P/M
Advantages: * Versatility * Value * Efficiency * Quality

WHAT IS P/M?
Powder metallurgy is a highly developed method
of manufacturing reliable ferrous and nonferrous parts. Made
by mixing elemental or alloy powders and compacting the
mixture in a die, the resultant shapes are then sintered or
heated in a controlled-atmosphere furnace.

PM MANUFACTURING IS
VERSATILE!
|
The basic versatility
of P/M is applied in numerous industries, including
automotive, business machines, aerospace, firearms, hand and
power tools. The process is versatile because it is
applicable for simple as well as complex precision pieces, and
a full range of chemical, physical and mechanical properties
are achievable. |
| P/M also offers an effective
alternative to machined parts, casts, and forgings. Both
ferrous and nonferrous P/M parts can be oil impregnated to
function as a self-lubricating bearing. |
 |
 |
P/M ADDS VALUE!
The P/M process uses more than 97% of the
starting raw material in the finished part. This makes
P/M an energy and material conserving process. P/M saves
steps. The use of additional assembly steps can be eliminated
by utilizing multi-level designs which combine two or
more separate shapes into a one-piece part.
| |
|
P/M
IS EFFICIENT!
|
P/M parts are produced at
or close to the final dimensions, so little or no machining is
required. Production rates vary from a few hundred to over a
thousand parts per hour. P/M parts also may be
sized for closer dimensional control and/or coined for both higher
density and strength. Many machined parts, castings, and forgings can be
economically manufactured with the P/M process, creating substantial
savings of both time and money. |
|
P/M
PROVIDES QUALITY!
P/M parts can be
formed in complex contours and multiple levels. Advanced P/M
technology make it possible to manufacture complex parts
economically, with no loss of strength or quality. The P/M process
makes it possible to manufacture components of exceptional strength.
